El Paso TX 4th Annual National Day of the Cowboy
July 28, 2012 @ 11:00 am - 6:00 pm
FreeEl Paso Museum of History
510 N Santa Fe Street
El Paso, TX
Howdy pardners! How about moseying on over to El Paso, Texas, former gunfight capitol of the world to enjoy the third annual National Day of the Cowboy. The El Paso Museum of History will be hosting this event and it promises to be a rip snorter.
Hands on activities will include making a cowboy puppet, learning about different brands, rope making, seeing how cowboys cooked on the range, see which saddle is the most comfortable, trying on reproduction clothes of a century ago, grinding coffee, participate in a flour sack race, make your own bandana and more.
This year will see four different groups participating in gunfights throughout the day to see who will rule the city. See Six Guns and Shady Ladies, Old West Thunder, Paso del Norte Pistoleros, and the Wild Bunch as they reenact famous gunfights that happened in old El Paso.
This year, from 2 to 4PM will feature a petting zoo with calves, camels, ponies, and sheep. Camels? Yes, camels were tried by the US Quartermaster Corps as a means of transportation in the deserts of the Southwest.
The Castro Family Charros and their horses will again be on hand to demonstrate their riding techniques. A history of Charros will be shown in an exhibit inside the museum.
So put on your boots and spurs and be a cowboy or cowgirl for a day!
