July 28, 2012 @ 8:00 am - 7:00 pm
The California State Fair will have a number of activities to commemorate and celebrate the National Day of the Cowboy, on Saturday July 28th. Nancy Easton, State Fair Equine Program Manager has lined up a number of specialty acts for the Cavalcade of Horses Arena. Included will be:
A reining demonstration with a trainer and a couple of her students
Barrel racing
The California Cowgirls drill team
A teamster doing a driving demonstration with team and wagon from Highway 50 Association
A working cow dog demonstration
A Trail Horse demonstration
A presentation of Cowboy poetry by a local cowgirl
The National Day of the Cowboy flag will also be presented during the day
The highlight of the day’s presentations will be Curt Pate, well known stockman and clinician, who will demonstrate how to move cattle in a “stress free” manner by reading the cattle and moving them by putting his horse in the proper position. Curt uses his knowledge of horses and cattle to show that cattle can be moved effectively with his horse never getting out of the walk.
