Saturday July 28, 2012
The Red River Valley Museum in Vernon, Texas and The Museum of the Western Prairie in Altus, Oklahoma, would like to invite you to a co-sponsored event Celebrating the National Day of the Cowboy on July 28th, 2012.
This “modern day trail ride”  will begin at 8:30 AM – 10:30 AM.
The Museum of the Western Prairie in Altus, Oklahoma and the members of the Western Trail Historical Society will host “Breakfast on the Western Prairie.”  There will be four (4) venues of first person “tales” of breakfast on the Western Prairie. The emphasis in each venue will be on the uniqueness of the people who settled in this part of the county….from cherished traditional Southern recipes to the hard-working family dinners of venison, poke salad , hot cornbread and wild dewberry pie. The “cowboy breakfast” of sourdough biscuits, salt pork and coffee prepared in a Dutch oven will be served.
8:30 AM – 10:30 AM:  Friends of the Museum of the Western Prairie in Altus will host four venues of meals on the western prairie with a sample of “cowboy breakfast” of biscuit, salt pork, and juice/coffee.
11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Saddle up your four-wheels and ride to Doan’s Crossing  (Texas)  for lemonade and a visit with a “real 1800’s cowboy”.  Join us under the pecan trees and listen to the tales of a cowboy who rode the Great Western Trail.  (11:00 AM – 12:00 PM)
Now, you will be ready for that air conditioned horse—or horsepower to be exact!
