Share a Tradition – Joseph “Jo” Mora 

The 2018 poster, once again features the artwork of internationally acclaimed artist, the late Joseph “Jo” Mora. Peter Hiller, the trustee for Mora’s art estate, gave us permission to use another beautiful piece of Mora’s art, as we did for the 2011 poster.

We are offering unsigned posters as well as posters which bear Mora’s Official Estate Stamp. The artwork is one of Jo Mora’s “Californios” style pieces, “After the rodeo, they danced all night.’ Poster colors are California Peach and Azure Blue.

All Hatch letterpress posters are still made by hand in Nashville, Tennessee, using wood carved blocks, printing one poster at a time..

Jo Mora Estate Stamped posters are $50 (includes S&H).

Unstamped posters are $30 each (includes S&H).

12th Annual National Day of the CowboyHatch 2016

Rock the Barn – Naomi Offner

Esteemed Washington artist, Naomi Offner, created this original little buckaroo graphic for our 2016 limited edition National Day of the Cowboy Hatch poster, the 12th in our historic series. The 2016 poster acknowledges the importance of young people in this effort. One reason we support preservation is so future generations can know, appreciate and experience the history of this important element of our culture.

Colors are chartreuse green and deep purple.

Hatch posters are still made by hand, on a hand-cranked press using hand-carved wood blocks. They’ve been making posters this way since 1879. Each poster is an individual, original work of art.

Stand Tall with Your Reel Heroes – Alex MacAskill Hatch 2015 scan

The 11th Annual National Day of the Cowboy poster offers a tip of the cowboy hat to your favorite western movie and TV heroes. Art for the poster was created by Canadian artist, Alex MacAskill, who hails from Halifax. Alex is now a graphic artist at Hatch Show Print in Nashville, Tennessee. 2015 marked the 60th Anniversary of Gunsmoke, so we wanted to be able to feature the west in film and TV this year. The theme for our 2015 NDOC poster is, “Stand Tall with your Reel Heroes.”

Fifty of the 2015 posters are numbered and hand-signed by the artist.
Posters measure approximately 14 inches by 22 inches.

10th Annual National Day of the Cowboy

Share the Past & Shape the Future – Tyler CrowHatch 2014

The 10th Annual National Day of the Cowboy was a milestone event and we wanted to reflect that in our 2014 Hatch Poster. Art for the poster was created by Oklahoma artist and cowboy, Tyler Crow, and we’re excited to announce that Tyler’s poster is the first in our series to be in three colors, rather than our traditional two colors. The theme for the 2014 NDOC Hatch Poster is, “Share the Past & Shape the Future.” Tyler created an inspiring depiction of two lifelong friends of his, a father and young son, who often ride the trail together. Tyler Crow has since become a member of the prestigious Cowboy Artists of America organization.

9th Annual National Day of the Cowboy
Become the Legend – Don Weller
July 27, 2013

Become the Legend by Don WellerArtwork for the 2013 Hatch was created by Don Weller, a world-renowned western artist from Oakley, Utah. Don has received numerous awards for his art, including from the Bosque Conservatory, the American Quarter Horse Museum, Western Artists of America, and Paint the Parks. He is truly a cowboy and a cowboy at heart who creates western paintings and loves riding his cutting horses. During his career, he has also created four United States postage stamps and gained worldwide recognition for his Time Magazine cover of Elton John.

2013 colors are Meadow Green and Golden Yellow.

The fabulous art for the 2012 National Day of the Cowboy Hatch poster was created by Kansas artist, Jim Clements. Jim’s artwork features a cowboy herding cattle. The 2012 colors are Wyoming Sky Blue and California Tangerine. We still have unsigned posters available. Hatch Show Print has been hand-making posters since 1879.

Wrap Your Heart Around – Joseph Mora Hatch 2011 jpg

We finally have a 2011 National Day of the Cowboy commemorative Hatch poster, thanks to Peter Hiller, trustee for the late Joseph Mora’s art estate. The poster theme is “Wrap Your Heart Around,” featuring Mora’s iconic work, “The Sweetheart of the Rodeo.”

A limited number of the 2011 7th Annual poster (7/11) will include Jo Mora’s official Estate Stamp. Also, we are able to offer a few posters hand-signed by legendary singer/songwriter and hall of fame member, Chris Hillman, an original member of the country rock band, The Byrds. The Byrds featured the Sweetheart of the Rodeo on their seminal country rock album of the same name.

Kick it up a Notch! – Jim Harrison

Our exclusive 2010 Hatch poster celebrating the 6th National Day of the Cowboy, features original graphic artistry by Florida artist, Jim Harrison. His stellar work was also used for the 2010 Elko Poetry Gathering poster.

Colors of the 2010 poster are deep purple, highlighted by metallic silver. Jim’s art is our first with two colors within the graphic itself. The theme for 2010 is “Kick it up a Notch!” Each year we create a new poster in which we pair Hatch’s vintage wood-block type with original artwork created for us by western artists.

Hatch Show Print has been hand-making Americana posters since 1879, in their easily recognized style, using hand-carved wood blocks and hand-cranked presses. Make it Your Own – Christina Holmes

This limited edition 2009 Hatch, celebrating the 5th Annual National Day of the Cowboy, features exclusive, original art by California artist Christina Holmes. Christina was an exhibiting artist at the prestigious Cowgirl UP! Exhibit and Sale in Wickenburg, Arizona, in 2009 and 2010. Our 2009 theme is “Make It Your Own,” in desert pink and charcoal grey.

Each year we create a new poster in which we pair Hatch’s vintage wood block type with original artwork created for us by western artists. Hatch Show Print has been making posters by hand since 1879, using hand-carved wood blocks and hand-cranked presses. Their posters are collected the world over. These NDOC posters are originals in a highly collectible and historic series, exclusive to the National Day of the Cowboy organization.

4th Annual National Day of the Cowboy

Catch the Cowboy Spirit – Zane Mead

This is the fourth poster in the highly collectible National Day of the Cowboy commemorative series with its original art celebrating this special day. This poster, in wrangler blue and copper, features art by New Mexico artist, Zane Mead. He based his graphic on a photograph taken by Jason Cupp, at a roping event at Horse Lover’s Park in Cave Creek, Arizona.

Each poster is a collaboration between our organization, an artist, and Hatch. Hatch Show Print of Nashville Tennessee. Hatch has been hand-making posters since 1879, using hand-carved wood blocks and a hand-cranked printing press. No two posters are ever the same.

2nd Annual National Day of the Cowboy

Saddle Up & Ride – Jennifer M. Ward

Own a distinctive piece of American history with this original Hatch Show Print celebrating the 2nd Annual National Day of the Cowboy. The Cowgirl at the heart of this poster was created exclusively for the National Day of the Cowboy by Arizona artist, Jennifer M. Ward. We sent her original art to Hatch where it was carved into a plate for “Saddle Up & Ride!” Colors are Bisbee turquoise and desert corral. Each year a new poster is created for the National Day of the Cowboy using Hatch’s vintage type paired with art created for us by artists such as Jennifer Ward and Teal Blake.

First National Day of the Cowboy

Original art for a new National Day of the Cowboy poster is now created for us each year by Western artists who support the work of our organization, the National Day of the Cowboy nonprofit. Text for the poster is always chosen from Hatch’s collection of vintage hand-carved wood block type.
